Twitter post with 49 red flags

Not everyone experiences the internet in the same way. So when the ‘red flag’ meme went around Twitter recently, numerous blind and visually impaired people were left in the dark ▓.

The meme where you quote a phrase that would be a “red flag” for someone to say to you, then add a bunch of red flag emojis, just does not make sense for people that use screen readers and voiceover technology. Rather than saying the color of the flag emoji, the voiceover says ‘triangular flag on a post”. 🚩

And sometimes the red flag emoji was used 49 times 😬.

So when creating content for social media consider how as many people as possible can enjoy it. To make it accessible for those who need it, use single emojis at the end of sentences, add alt text for screen readers, and add captions in videos.
